14. 3. 2018 – The Future of the Future: Die Technologische Singularität

(English below)

The scientific and technological progress of mankind has become faster and faster – and in the recent past, this acceleration has increased dramatically. The accompanying change in society does not take place in a linear, but at an exponential pace. Within just a few decades, our entire technological environment is changing, thereby transforming humanity itself. The world in which we grow old will have little in common with the world in which we grew up.

Four scientific disciplines are highly relevant for this development: Nano-, Bio-, Info- and Cognotechnologies (NBIC). These disciplines are also converging at an accelerating pace and will, in the foreseeable future, help overcome many of the limitations of human existence in order to fundamentally improve life in all parts of the world, and even beyond our little planet.

The greatest fears and hopes lie in the field of artificial intelligence, which has experienced equally breathtaking exponential growth in recent years. In the eyes of many experts, humanity will face the Technological Singularity within the next decades – the point at which artificial intelligence finally exceedes human intelligence. The consequences for our society and the planet are as breathtaking as they are incalculable. What for some is the greatest conceivable existential threat to humanity, holds for others the hope of a golden age of transhumanism and posthumanism. However, we can say without doubt that the singularity will change the lives of people on earth (and in the universe) in unprecedented ways.

The Transhuman Party Germany (TPD), the Berlin University Chapter of the humanist Giordano Bruno Foundation (SHBH) and the Humanist Party (PdH) have won an outstanding and internationally renowned speaker on this topic: José Luis Cordeiro, PhD, is one of the leading experts on questions of technological development, transhumanism and the distant future.
